Products: German-based Thyssen Krupp Nirosta manufactured the Austenite 55 stainless steel, made from 80 percent recycled content, for the 22- by 22-foot floating conference room.
Fine Points: SHW Group designed a floating conference room, which sits above the lobby of its atrium. The west side is covered with stainless steel that has a finish that captures and reflects light. The loft is cantilevered out into the atrium and is visible from the outside. The company’s entrance is 2 1/2 stories and the cube, which has glass on three sides and stainless steel on the other, adds visual interest. It floats ten feet above the floor and is 12 feet high. Mecho shades are used on the windows to diffuse light. SHW Group’s space currently is certified as LEED Silver by the USGBC.
