People: architect, SVPA Architects Inc., West Des Moines, Iowa; general contractor, The Weitz Co., Des Moines, Iowa; metal panel installer, Baker Group, Des Moines; and curving panel service, Curveline Inc., Ontario, Calif.
Products: Morin West, Fontana, Calif., manufactured the 7/8-inch corrugated 22-gauge wall panels in eight different lengths and curved into eight different degrees of curvature, all with a consistent 19-foot, 4 5/8-inch radius, to meet design requirements.
Fine Points: The new 30,000-square-foot facility uses curved metal wall panels that mimic a grain bin as a major design element to reflect the agricultural function of the organization. The grain bin is a 30-foot-high open rotunda that connects the building’s two levels of office space. The panels were designed to be installed with horizontal metal bands to add visual interest and break up the field of the corrugated wall system.
