People: installer, Beyer Roofing, Saginaw, and architect, Edmund London & Associates Inc., Southfield, Mich.
Products: Firestone Building Products, Indianapolis, manufactured the following metal: 167,239 square feet of 24-gauge champagne metallic 17 3/4-inch UNA-CLAD UC-4 for the hospital wings; 15,780 square feet of 24-gauge, 13 1/2-inch UNA-CLAD UC-2 in multiple colors for the endwalls of each wing; 7,097 square feet of 24-gauge, champagne metallic UNA-CLAD UC-7 Tapered for the cones; and 20,000 square feet of 24-gauge contractor-formed radius panels in a champagne metallic color for the main hall.
Fine Points: New patient, resident and client care facilities totaling about 169,300 square feet recently were added and nearly 50,000 square feet of space was renovated. The clipless design of the metal roofing system helped increase the efficiency of the installation. The end of each hospital wing has either a cone-shaped or small half hexagon roof that has a unique detail at the hip piece. Instead of using hip flashing, a custom hairpin hip cap was used to provide a clean transition line from one roof plane to the next.
